The poem depicts the narrorator finding a spider, which killed a moth, on a white flower. “On a white heal-all, holding up a moth”(2). The narrorator then ponders on why that flower was white and what it had to do with being white. “What had that flower to do with being white”(9). The narrorator then proceedes to think about what or who makes designes for things so small and insignificant. “What but design of darkness to appall?—If design govern in a thing so small”(13-14).
